Education, Training and Employment
The HCE Project Team in conjunction with NHCN Education, Training and Culture Division will be hosting a training, education and career fair in the community during the month of May, where we will highlight key positions throughout the life of the project. All HCE business partners and stakeholders will be invited to attend as they will share their educational backgrounds, work experiences and industry opportunities. Zoe Muswagon, the newest NHCN HCE Team member will be leading the planning of the training, education and career fair.
JNR Construction in collaboration with the NHCN HCE Team has compiled an estimated workforce requirements document. This list includes the labour requirements (number of workers), types of trades (carpenters, labourers, electricians and plumbers) and duration of each position (number of weeks). Christie Spencer continues to work with NHCN Education, Training and Culture Division to support apprenticeship-based training and work experience to support community members in obtaining trade levels and/or Red Seal certification.
Key community-based positions that have been identified thus far include a Project Manager/Community Liaison, Site Administrator and Procurement Coordinator. The Site Administrator role has been accepted by a community member and employment begins with JNR Construction on Monday April 15th, 2019.
The Site Administrator will work closely with the NHCN HCE team throughout the duration of the project.
The NHCN HCE Team has also submitted two proposals through the First Nations and Inuit Youth Employment Strategy, for six (6) Summer Students and two (2) Skills Link positions to engage Cree Nation youth to be part of the NHCN HCE Project at an early stage.
